MUNDIALITO DE EL PORVENIR
Posted on October 02 2017
The Mundialito de El Porvenir is a famed street soccer tournament played every May 1st in the neighborhood of La Victoria in Lima, Peru.
The tournament’s origin dates back to the 1950s, when the military dictatorship led by Manuel Arturo Odría banned people from playing soccer in the streets. In defiant response, a group of La Victoria residents from block 6 of Avenida Prolongación Parinacochas organized a street soccer tournament that still stands today.
The images above show the Mundialito de El Porvenir in the 1950s and in 2017.
